We don’t provide any health/travel insurance and we highly recommend you to come with your valid travel insurance. US Department of State has useful tips on selecting such insurance.

There are no essential vaccinations required to enter Morocco. However, make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Besides, CDC recommends to have Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccine.

Private and public medical treatment facilities are available in the major city areas with many doctors having traveled to the US or Europe to receive their training. Private clinics provide a better standard of care however it is a pay upfront system, so it’s worth checking with your insurance provider about the conditions.

Pharmacies are often well stocked in major cities and can treat general illnesses and conditions. If you use any specific medicine, bring it with you. We will happily assist you if needed. Still, if you have some prescription medicine check out the detailed Healthy Travel Packing List provided by CDC.

There is no need to bring cash – you can easily withdraw local cash at ATMs. There are  plenty of them including in Morocco (don’t forget to check the applicable fees with your financial institution). Optionally, you can exchange your currency either at the airport upon arrival or at one of the money exchange kiosks in the major cities (some hotels also provide this service but for a less favourable rate).

Morocco: The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham, denoted as MAD or Dhs. Approximate exchange rate is 11 dirham = 1 EUR, or 9.95 dirham = 1 USD.

Remember that it’s good to have local change for tips (see below)

Tipping is a very delicate situation for the guests who are the first type in a country with strong tipping culture like Morocco. Where, when and how much to tip can vary quite a bit and this is where many people get confused or frustrated. The rule of thumb is to tip anyone that provides you with good service.

Some tips about tips:

  • At the café: 5 to 10 dirhams
  • At the restaurant: 10%
  • Luggages cart guy (probably you will need some help in the medinas where the vehicles often can’t come to the hotel doors): 20-30 dirhams
  • Porters in hotel: 20-40 dirhams
  • Leaving riads, it is a good idea is to leave an envelope for all the staff (they used to share): 200-300 dirhams
  • Driver/tour leader: 200 dirhams per day (not per person)
  • Local guides: all day 600 dirhams, 1/2 day 300 dirhams (not per person)

The first thing that comes to a mind of a person that has never been to Morocco is the dress code. There is no. Women are not required to use headscarf, in Marrakesh or any big city you can observe girls wearing shorts and mini skirts walking hand by hand with others totally covered (full-body veils). In the rural areas, people are dressing way more conservative.

To have a pleasant and comfortable trip, choose clothes having in mind sun + dust + temperature change. Protect your skin with linens and cotton, choose something that can be easy layered (actually, Moroccan traditional clothes will start making a lot of sense from this point of view!). For women, maxi and midi skirts and dresses, harem pants could be a great choice – besides of feeling comfortably while walking and sitting, you will feel quite native in the Kingdom. Both men and women will feel natural in linen pants, jeans, shirts, loose tunics, cardigans. Consider local clothing – there is a great choice of elegant high-quality linen and cotton garment in Marrakesh to bring home with nice memories. + If you are coming in winter months, take a warm jacket, a sweater, woolen socks.

Comfy closed toe shoes is a must to explore both medinas and natural sights. Sandals are not a good choice for dusty streets and souks (neither for hot sands of the desert).

Flip flops to use near the pool or in the shower.

Swimsuit. Yes, even if you are going to the desert, expect swimming pools and hammams! On the beach, you will feel more comfortable in an one-piece swimsuit but a the swimming pools of the hotels you’ll be fine using bikini.

Running shoes if you enjoy jogging. There are gyms and in the majors cities there are parks to run.

Morocco is a perfect place to come with kids and even babies, since you consider some basic planning things. To be short, here come 5 mains reasons:

  1. It is very safe;
  2. People will be very helpful and double friendly seeing you with kids;
  3. The local food is perfect for kids: slow-cooked stew of vegetables and/or meat/chicken fish. Yummy, fresh and super healthy. Additionally, you can ask to cook something specially for your baby (like with no salt or spices) almost in any place be it a riad or restaurant/cafe;
  4. We have a couple of tour leaders that are very used to assist our guests with small kids. They will consider all the small details and you even can count on some help with playing or porting your kid! (and of course, we provide car seats and strollers);
  5. We select some of the hotels/riads that are kid-friendly: having no stairs, a lot of space in the garden, swimming pool and other amenities.
